River Valley High will offer the Integrated Programme from year 2006.

This was announced by Education Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam during a visit to the school on Friday.

The programme will be open to Secondary 1 and 2 students joining in January next year.

They will take their GCE 'A' level examinations at the end of JC2.

This makes it the 12th school to offer the programme, as part of the broader restructuring of the education landscape to encourage greater diversity and choice, and cater to the varied talents of our students.

The review committee, which recommended it, had said the programme would cater to students who were clearly university-bound, and could also do well in a less structured environment.

It would free up time used to prepare students for the GCE 'O' Level examinations, to engage them in broader learning experiences.

The Education Ministry says River Valley High intends to focus on both process and content aimed at nurturing critical thinking skills and giving students the chance to engage in broader learning experiences.

At the same time, the school will provide a range of programmes to develop talents in niche areas such as the arts and mathematics.

Also announced on Friday - River Valley High will move to new premises in Jalan Boon Lay in a few years.

This is to provide for the projected expansion in enrolment and full range of facilities needed as a 6th form school.

The Ministry says the current West Coast Road site is not large enough to accommodate the eventual total enrolment at 6 levels.

In the meantime, the school will move to the existing St Andrew's Junior College premises at Malan Road in the middle of next year.

The bigger site will give the school greater infrastructural flexibility to organise its Integrated Programme.

The programme is currently offered at the Raffles and Hwa Chong families of schools, Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), National Junior College, Temasek Junior College, Victoria Junior College, Dunman High School and NUS High School of Mathematics and Science. - CNA/ir

Hampers!

Today, Jiaxu, Jolene, Farhanah, Pei Shi and Wei Chang went over to Metta Home to send the hampers over. This entry is about what happened.

- Everyone (Listed above) came to Wei Chang's house.
- Brought the hampers onto Mr Chong's car.
- He droved us to Metta Home.
- We delivered the hampers to them.
- They thanked us.
- They told us the Home provides vegetarian food.
- We have loads of meat-related items in the hampers.
- Sort of apologised to them about that.
- Took photos of Metta Home to prove our presence.
- End.

That's a brief outline of what happened. By the way, if you're wondering why GLH wasn't there, she was. But at 9.00am. We were suppose to go there at 10.30am. Ok, we didn't update GLH about the meeting time and she had thought it was at 9.00am. LOL. So she left after calling Farhanah and asking what happened.

TONG IS COMING TO CHALET BARBECUE!

SINGAPORE - The 2I Mathematics Representative, Ong Jia Qiang, has revealed a sorry and sad news: Mr Tong will be coming for the barbecue held alongside the class chalet, from the 7th to the 9th of June at East Coast.

It all started when on 3 June, Olivia and Farhanah contacted Mr Tong to attempt to gain his permission to skip the Mathematics remedial held on the 9th of June. When Mr Tong asked for the reason for the request for permission, they told him that they would be attending the class chalet. At that point, he apparently forced the girls to allow him to attend the barbecue on Tuesday.

According to Rep. Ong, Mr Tong wants us to 'on your handphones all the time' to 'let your parents call you', and 'find all the nearest police stations, fire stations and hospitals'. He also wants our two Mathematics Representatives to 'welcome me at the door'.

When contacted with the news, AVA Representative Darren Foong responded, "I'm going mad! He's going to scold me for not attending remedial!" Computer Representative Kevin Ng commented by saying, "What. The. [censored]." Olivia Tan, one of the two involved in the event, apologised by saying, "We are sorry about it," followed by "The free drinks."

Wei Chang's Class Website idea seems promising, but we need to look at a few factors.

Hosting Services - The most important thing of them all, where we dump our pages and stuff. Unless we get our own servers (highly improbable, because we only need to hold a few megabytes, will only have tops a few hundred visitors per day), or host it in one of our computers (yes, we can host them in our own servers, but who would want to have their computers on twenty-four hours a day?). Otherwise we need to find a hosting service. Geocities seems nice, until you encounter the stupid ads and file transfer limit. Hi, Kevin here. It's a bit weird to see this thing without a title field, but oh well, what the heck.

Anyway, I'll make a list of what prospective template-editors should not add and the reason.

Background Music - Most music files are in the megabyte range, and while most of us are fortunate enough to have broadband, there are still poor souls who use modems, and those people who are pathetic enough to use a 56k connection. So before you add that nice tune, think of all the poor people.
JavaScript Popup Scripts - A perfect example would be one entering this website or this website. On Mozilla Firefox it appears as a "JavaScript Application". They never looked nice to be and is a distraction to me, which mean it's annoying. So there.
Anti Right-Click Scripts - Or "JavaScript Popup Upon Right-Clicking", or "Disable Right-Clicking Outright". Designed to defeat source piracy, it has backfired on itself, disabling normally the most innocent of users from right-clicking. And "View", "View Source" on both MSIE and Firefox allows you to view source, so it is absolutely useless.
Custom Mouse Cursors - I have mostly no stance about it, except that it annoys me sometimes because my "clicking accuracy" is reduced. Darren seems to oppose it though.

That are my ideas.

Anyway, I suggest all sane thinkers to visit NationStates and register a nation, just as you did with Darren's Kingdom of Loathing. It is a political stimulation. Simple? Just read their forums, and see the detail and effort put into their role-playing. Anyway, visit my nation here. Weeee!
